Outfit of the Day: Last Weekend of the Summer

Happy final days of Summer Kittens

With September 22nd officially marking the start of Fall we say good bye to Summer for the rest of year. A tout à l'heure. Until we see you again Summer!

For this final weekend of summer last weekend it really went out with a bang! The sun was shining all weekend and temperatures were up! Some might say it was a little too hot on Sunday but I'll take the heat any day!

On Saturday my husband and I spend a nice day out and about. We started the day making a stop into our local vintage reproduction shop, Vintage Alley. I was really hoping they'd have some Halloween themed stuff on offer as they sometimes do around this time of year but not a Halloween item was in view. Maybe it was just a little too early. Next we went out for lunch at our local brewery, Buffalo Bills, and shared a black pumpkin beer with our lunch. After that, we stopped in at the 80's arcade, High Scores, for a bit to play some games and beat some high scores... and all this was on the same block! I love our town! After all this we went to Joann's to see what they have for offer for Halloween houseware then tried to go to a shop I know of that was selling vintage Halloween themed items last year. We must have gotten there just a little too late though because they were closed :( Looking through the window I could see all the glorious vintage Halloween things were back in stock so I will have to come back again! We ended the day with a stop at the mall.

We usually just go to the mall for a place to hang out and window shop at Hot Topic, Spencer's, and the Lego store and I usually make a stop at Forever 21 just to see what they have for accessories. But while we were at the mall this time around I noticed that with the new season, there's a new (old) style that's back, late 70's early 80's! I rubbed my hands together and looked just a little more closely at what was on offer and even picked up a super cute outfit at Forever 21 for about $35! There was also a corduroy jumper at Nordstrom that I liked but that one got left behind since it was a bit more and there are a ton of stuff currently on my online wishlist that I'd rather get instead. Maybe if it's still around later I will go back for it though.

Anyhow, on to the outfit for this Outfit of the Day! ;)

Outfit of the Day (Saturday):

For this day I picked out an oldie but goodie, my Bettie Page (now Tatyana) Cruiser dress which my husband got for me several years ago at the Bettie Page store in Las Vegas while we were there on vacation one year. I paired this with yellow peep toe flats which I got from Target also several years ago. For fun finishing touches I paired this with a straw banana purse I got from ebay earlier this summer (also worn here), a straw fruit fascinator I made last year (see the tutorial here), and a pair of blue flower earrings I got from Forever 21 several years ago. Just in case it should get cold I grabbed my Collectif Annette knitted cape which I got several years ago but it ended up staying in the car the whole time since it was such a nice warm day that day.

On Sunday my friend and I went out to San Francisco to go to the Urban Air Market where some friends had a booth selling their hand crafted goods! I was so impressed by the tables my friend's sister, Alexandra Green makes! She does everything herself including the welding on her tables and chairs! Check out her absolutely gorgeous work here: Scrappy Metal Design.

Innovation and creativity must run strong in this family! I was equally impressed with the 100% natural skin care products my friend and Alexandra's sister, Adriana Green had on offer through her product line Esteli Body. I was addicted to her rose and hibiscus coconut water toner mist which had such a wonderful smell and was so refreshing on a hot day like Sunday. I left the market though with her clay and flowers face mask and rosehips adzuki and rice exfloiating grains excited to try them at home.

Outfit of the day (Sunday):

For this day's activities I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Lucy dress in red gingham. I love red gingham dresses and Trashy Diva does them so well! I got this dress earlier this summer (I had to have it after seeing the lovely Sammi from the Soubrette Brunette looking so spectacular in hers!). Because I knew there was going to be a lot walking this day I paired this dress with red Vans, a gift from my husband from earlier this year. Also, because we were going out to the city where it's usually cold, I also paired this with a red cardigan I got from Nordstrom Rack several years ago. For a finishing touch I wore this with a red strawberry purse which I got from ebay earlier this summer (another inspiration piece first seen on another lovely blogger's blog, CiCi Marie). A red gingham hair tie from Trashy Diva which I wore tied in my ponytail also helped finish off this up. To continue with the fruit theme I also wore red apple earrings which I got from Modcloth a couple years ago.

Outfit of the Day: Transitioning into Fall

Hello Kittens!

Here are some Outfits of the Days from last weekend.

Saturday:
On Saturday Tim and I were working most of the day in the backyard, cutting down the weeds that have gotten out of control, and overall clearing things up. We weren't planning on leaving the house that day so when a friend later invited us over for a casual get together I was a little out of sorts on what to wear. I really just wanted to wear pants that day but at the same time felt that I should wear a dress since I was going out. I'm still not 100% feeling this outfit and as is always the way with an outfit you aren't 100% about, right before we left I thought of a different one that would have been perfect! But really, I just couldn't be bothered changing again! Oh well. So here is my outfit from Saturday. I wore my Bettie Page Atomic Sun dress in Martini print paired with navy capri leggings from Forever 21, a navy cropped cardigan by MAK from Modcloth, and navy flats. For a fun finishing touch I added my Edward the Tipsy Elephant brooch by Pinup Girl Clothing which I got from Retro Glam.

Sunday:
On Sunday Tim and I spent the day in the nearby waterfront town of Alameda. In the morning we were at the once monthly vintage flea market, the Alameda Point Antiques Faire, then we had lunch at the beach side shopping center, the Town Center, where we did a little window shopping. Then we went to the brand new shopping center, Alameda Landing, and went to Cream for freshly made ice cream sandwiches! My ice cream sandwich consisted of a turtle cookie, chocolate and vanilla ice cream swirled with caramel, closed off with a white chocolate macadamia cookie, with sprinkles on top. Tim had a snickerdoodle ice cream sandwich with rum raisin ice cream and graham cracker crumble on top. It was delicious at the time but oh too much after! Whenever we go out for ice cream I usually end up taking most of it home and saving it throughout the week but since Alameda is a little bit away from home I ate the whole thing there! While it was delicious, we've been joking all week about how I will go to Alameda again but please don't make me to go Cream!

Anyhow, my Outfit of the Day! Since Saturday was a lot colder than it had been, I was expected some autumn weather and chose to wear my true vintage eyelet brown sheath dress which I got some years ago from Etsy. After all, I wanted to wear true vintage while at the Antique Faire! Picking up the velvet in the attached velvet belt of the dress, I paired this with velvet mary janes I got from Urban Outfitters last winter. I also paired with this some super cute Rosita Bonita cat earrings I recently got from Trashy Diva. For when it got cool I brought along my mohair black cardigan but it never really did get cool enough for it that day.

Something Old, Something New, Something Classically Blue! More Awesome Ebay Finds!

I've been haunting ebay again.

I don't know if I've just been getting lucky lately with my ebay finds or if it's just that hard stalking pays off. In the last few months I have been able to acquire some seriously cute things from Bettie Page Clothing A.K.A. Tatyana at great prices. Here are my latest finds!

The Matilda Dress by Bettie Page Clothing

The Matilda Dress is definitely an oldie but goodie! I remember back before I ever made my first Bettie Page purchase, looking through their online catalog at all their beautiful designs, and seeing this dress. I would swoon over these dresses for months, imagining how awesome it would be to go out wearing one of these dresses, but not daring to take the plunge to buy one. I remember how classic and iconically 50's all their dresses were back then. I wish they would bring back some of their older designs. Until then, there is always ebay and also, it is nice to see that there are some staples they stock even from past years.

The Matilda dress comes in a caramel colored tan. This wiggle dress features an off centered faux button panel at the bodice, cuffed pointed sleeves at the arms, pointed collar, dainty neck bow, and a self fabric belt. To ensure a great fit, this dress has plenty of stretch, a back zip, and back slit for easy movement at the bottom of the skirt.

The Micky Dress by Tatyana

The Micky dress is one of Tatyana's newer dresses. I believe this dress was just released this past spring/summer. This dress is an easy to wear cotton/spandex dress which features black and white stripes at contrasting angles, two white buttons at the neckline, a unique turned over collar, cute capped sleeves, back zip, and ruffles at the bottom of the skirt. I love the detail of the collar in the back which makes a sort of peter pan collar. This dress is so unbelievably comfortable to wear! I'm sure it will be one of my new favorites for next summer when the weather starts to turn warm again.

The Captain Dress by Bettie Page

The Captain dress is perhaps one of Bettie Page's / Tatyana's most iconic and recognizable dresses. This is one of their classic designs that has endured and has long stayed a staple on their website. This dress, which is also available as a pencil style, features a wide sailor inspired collar trimmed in white satin, it has sleeves, and also features a double breasted bodice. As with the Micky dress, I love the back collar detail, the shape of which reminds me of Madeline, the little French girl in the yellow hat!  It is supposed to come with a white belt but since I picked this up on ebay for a bargain price I'm not too upset that the belt didn't come with it especially since I can easily take a white belt off of one of my other dresses. :)
