Matching Your Dress to Your Teaware Part 30: Halloween Edition #2

"Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore."

With it being the season of dress up I thought another special Halloween Edition of Perfect Pairings was in order! (You can see the first one from last year here.)

The Hopscotch dress in blue and white gingham by Trashy Diva is the perfect dress for channeling Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz! It features a classic a-line shape with flared skirt, a contrasting white top with a high peter pan collar that secures closed at the top, there are decorative pearl buttons on white discs which give this dress an extra edge of cuteness, and of course, then you have the blue and white gingham!

I knew right away this dress had to be featured in a Halloween Edition of of Perfect Pairings! Then when I first saw Paul Cardew's Wizard of Oz teapot I knew I really had a Perfect Pairing indeed! The Paul Cardew teapot features several illustrated scenes from the movie including a ferocious tornado depicted on the spout of the teapot and a harmonious rainbow on the handle. Another feature that I really love about this teapot is a quote from the movie portrayed in an asymmetric cylindrical pattern around the top portion of the teapot. Because of the asymmetric cylindrical design and the changing size of the font, it's like the words themselves are flying around, trapped in the force of the tornado. My all time favorite feature of this teapot though is the cheeky Toto on the lid of the teapot. He stands crouched with his little tail up while standing on the yellow brick road. Such a cute dog and such a great teapot!

Outfit of the Day: Last Weekend of the Summer

Happy final days of Summer Kittens

With September 22nd officially marking the start of Fall we say good bye to Summer for the rest of year. A tout à l'heure. Until we see you again Summer!

For this final weekend of summer last weekend it really went out with a bang! The sun was shining all weekend and temperatures were up! Some might say it was a little too hot on Sunday but I'll take the heat any day!

On Saturday my husband and I spend a nice day out and about. We started the day making a stop into our local vintage reproduction shop, Vintage Alley. I was really hoping they'd have some Halloween themed stuff on offer as they sometimes do around this time of year but not a Halloween item was in view. Maybe it was just a little too early. Next we went out for lunch at our local brewery, Buffalo Bills, and shared a black pumpkin beer with our lunch. After that, we stopped in at the 80's arcade, High Scores, for a bit to play some games and beat some high scores... and all this was on the same block! I love our town! After all this we went to Joann's to see what they have for offer for Halloween houseware then tried to go to a shop I know of that was selling vintage Halloween themed items last year. We must have gotten there just a little too late though because they were closed :( Looking through the window I could see all the glorious vintage Halloween things were back in stock so I will have to come back again! We ended the day with a stop at the mall.

We usually just go to the mall for a place to hang out and window shop at Hot Topic, Spencer's, and the Lego store and I usually make a stop at Forever 21 just to see what they have for accessories. But while we were at the mall this time around I noticed that with the new season, there's a new (old) style that's back, late 70's early 80's! I rubbed my hands together and looked just a little more closely at what was on offer and even picked up a super cute outfit at Forever 21 for about $35! There was also a corduroy jumper at Nordstrom that I liked but that one got left behind since it was a bit more and there are a ton of stuff currently on my online wishlist that I'd rather get instead. Maybe if it's still around later I will go back for it though.

Anyhow, on to the outfit for this Outfit of the Day! ;)

Outfit of the Day (Saturday):

For this day I picked out an oldie but goodie, my Bettie Page (now Tatyana) Cruiser dress which my husband got for me several years ago at the Bettie Page store in Las Vegas while we were there on vacation one year. I paired this with yellow peep toe flats which I got from Target also several years ago. For fun finishing touches I paired this with a straw banana purse I got from ebay earlier this summer (also worn here), a straw fruit fascinator I made last year (see the tutorial here), and a pair of blue flower earrings I got from Forever 21 several years ago. Just in case it should get cold I grabbed my Collectif Annette knitted cape which I got several years ago but it ended up staying in the car the whole time since it was such a nice warm day that day.

On Sunday my friend and I went out to San Francisco to go to the Urban Air Market where some friends had a booth selling their hand crafted goods! I was so impressed by the tables my friend's sister, Alexandra Green makes! She does everything herself including the welding on her tables and chairs! Check out her absolutely gorgeous work here: Scrappy Metal Design.

Innovation and creativity must run strong in this family! I was equally impressed with the 100% natural skin care products my friend and Alexandra's sister, Adriana Green had on offer through her product line Esteli Body. I was addicted to her rose and hibiscus coconut water toner mist which had such a wonderful smell and was so refreshing on a hot day like Sunday. I left the market though with her clay and flowers face mask and rosehips adzuki and rice exfloiating grains excited to try them at home.

Outfit of the day (Sunday):

For this day's activities I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Lucy dress in red gingham. I love red gingham dresses and Trashy Diva does them so well! I got this dress earlier this summer (I had to have it after seeing the lovely Sammi from the Soubrette Brunette looking so spectacular in hers!). Because I knew there was going to be a lot walking this day I paired this dress with red Vans, a gift from my husband from earlier this year. Also, because we were going out to the city where it's usually cold, I also paired this with a red cardigan I got from Nordstrom Rack several years ago. For a finishing touch I wore this with a red strawberry purse which I got from ebay earlier this summer (another inspiration piece first seen on another lovely blogger's blog, CiCi Marie). A red gingham hair tie from Trashy Diva which I wore tied in my ponytail also helped finish off this up. To continue with the fruit theme I also wore red apple earrings which I got from Modcloth a couple years ago.

Outfit of the Day: Happy 240th Birthday U.S.A!

This past weekend was 4th of July weekend!

It was chock full of wonderful time spent out of doors and out spending time with friends.

While fourth of July usually passes without too much fanfare from me, I had a dose of extra enthusiasm this year for the event and the weekend in general. I owe this all to Jessica at the blog Chronically Vintage for sharing so much of her enthusiasm for this holiday as well as her enthusiasm and love over her native holiday, Canada Day. Hearing her take on the festivities that happen here in the states with our bbqs, fireworks, and parades made me want to make sure I fit at least some (if not all) of these activities into my holiday weekend. Sometimes it just takes a fresh pair of eyes to see something in a new and enthusiastic light.

On Saturday Tim and I spent the morning going out for breakfast and then spent the afternoon exploring around town, going to the mall for a bit, getting ice cream, and seeing what was playing at the movie theater. He had his heart set on watching the new Flula Borg movie Buddymoon but it turns out it is only out in very limited release.

On Sunday we spend the day out at the beach with one of our friends. The early afternoon was spent first getting together equipment for the day then a stop for lunch before the beach. We had the plan to go windsurfing that day. It was going to be my first time trying it, but it turns out the windsurf board we had was way too small for beginners. While the guys had a good time trying it, I got to enjoy a day out on the beach enjoying the good weather.

Monday was an extra special treat. It turns out the friend we saw just the day before helped make a float for the Alameda 4th of July parade for a club he's in and we got invited to sit on it! I've never been in a parade before so this was an extra special treat to not only get to see the parade but also be in one and join in! The Alameda 4th of July parade is herald as being one of the largest and longest 4th of July parades in the country. It makes a 3 mile loop around Alameda and by the time the last of the floats are starting to make their journey out of the starting gate the first floats are making their way back to the start. It was an awesome experience to say the least. After the parade the club for which the float was representing, the Aeolian Yacht club, was having a bbq, which we got to go to as well. It was a great bbq, right on the water with live music! After eating Tim and I went for a walk along one of the shoreline walking paths, and then after, came back to the club to play a couple rounds of horseshoes with our friend. Before heading home we decided to stop by another bbq other friends of ours were hosting ending the night seeing some fireworks going off both near and far.

Outfit of the Day (Saturday):

I decided to kick start the 4th of July weekend with my Trashy Diva Trixie dress and bolero in Sci Fi Rockets print. I figured the red white and blue colors would make for a perfect dress this weekend. I paired it with a patent leather-like red belt which came from a Bernie Dexter dress and some comfy blue Rocket Dog flats which I got several years ago, I think from Zappos. For a finishing touch I wore golden stud earrings, which I bought last year from Forever 21, to match the golden yellow of the rockets in the print.

Outfit of the Day (Sunday):

On Sunday, continuing along with the 4th of July theme, I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Trixie dress in red gingham. I paired this with a red cardigan which I got several years ago from Nordstrom Rack and red Ecco flats which I got from ebay last year. For a finishing touch I paired this with a fun banana themed straw purse which I got also from ebay a couple weeks ago.

Outfit of the Day (Monday, 4th of July):

On 4th of July I had my heart set on wearing my Stop Staring Sailor swing dress (A.K.A. the Luxury Craft dress) which I got from Modcloth a couple years ago. It just so happened to work out perfectly for the float we ended up being on for the 4th of July parade that day! To add extra touches of 4th of July to this outfit I paired it with my red Ecco flats, red floral stud earrings I got from Forever 21 a couple years ago, a red bracelet my step mom gave me a few weeks ago, and a red vintage purse I got from Etsy several years ago.

Outfit of the Day: Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze!

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!

Last Saturday my friend and I went out for a wonderful full day outing. We started at the bi-annual Alameda Point Vintage Fashion Faire in Alameda. At first, walking in, it occurred to me this was going to be a lot smaller than the Vintage Fashion Expo that I went to a few weeks ago, but as we walked around and started looking through the 50+ vendor's booths I realized this one actually had a lot more clothes which is the thing I really want to look at! :) This time, I walked away with a lovely 1960's purple boucle cape! It was the first thing that caught my eye and I learned from the last vintage fashion expo that if you see something you like you'd better grab it quick because you never know if it's going to last! I'm totally looking forward to the next upcoming one later in the year! Maybe for that one I will be better about taking photos.

After the fashion faire we had lunch on Alameda's main shopping street, Park St, and popped into my favorite vintage shop there, Juniper Tree Vintage, where I found a super cute small sized vintage style Halloween cat lantern to add to my one item collection. Maybe you can spot it behind me in my Outfit of the Day photos below?

After we had our fill of Alameda we drove to Livermore to go to the corn maze and pumpkin patch!! This stop was precluded by a necessary stop at Starbucks along the way for pumpkin spice lattes <3

Black and white gingham is just to fall to me!! <3 I paired this a vintage short sleeve orange collared cardigan which I found at a local shop, 23 Skidoo, earlier this summer, black flats, and Halloween cat earrings from Rosita Bonita which I got from Trashy Diva
