Dress Review: Strawberry Crush

Hello Kittens!

Last week I posted a Perfect Pairing post featuring a dynamic duo of strawberries (if you missed it you can check out my post Matching Your Dress to Your Teaware Part 31: Sweet Strawberries for Spring and Summer here). Today, I wanted to post the full review of the dress I featured in that post.

Back in early March Trashy Diva released their Berry Chantilly collection, the second collection they released for 2017. This spring ready design features a dainty all over print of ripe strawberries on and off the vine, as well as an assemblage of green leaves, white flowers, whimsical white ribbons, and fun black outlined parasols all set against a sunshiney background of soft buttery yellow. This collection was released as a full collection with many cuts including the Hopscotch dress, the 1940's dress, the Trixie dress, the Camilla dress, a romper, as well as several separates, the Alexa tie top, the Hottie top, the classic skirt, and high waisted shorts. This collection even has a dress for the littles (children that is) with the Baby Posey dress. With so many cuts and options to chose from it makes it both hard and fun trying to pick which cut is right for you.

I immediately fell in love with the feminine flutter sleeves of the Camilla dress! I just adore ruffles and all things super girly on my dresses. I imagined pretending I was a 1930's debutante feeling the flutter sleeves gently brushing my arms in the wind. However, it appears that Trashy Diva knows me better than I know myself. When my package arrived shortly after launch date (yes, it has taken me that long to write this review!) instead of the Camilla dress it was the Hopscotch dress that was staring back at me! Since it was in my size and since it was there I decided to try it on anyway just to see it on before sending it back. Lo and behold it was love at first try on. Why did I ever turn my back on the gloriousness that is the fun and beautiful Hopscotch dress?!

The Hopscotch dress is one of my favorite cuts by Trashy Diva. This 1950's style cut features a full skirt, and modest bodice (two things I most prefer in dresses), the bodice is darted to give a nipped in look and has a cute peter pan collar that buttons with a hook and eye closure at the collar. To shy away from being too modest and buttoned up though, this dress has a front slit down the neckline which gives it a little daring without being too cleavagey. This dress also features small sparkling decorative white and rhinestone buttons along the front of the bodice, cap style sleeves, and for a fun little bit of pizazz, a cutout in the back. For full functionality, this dress has an invisible size zip and comes with pockets. This print came in a soft stretch rayon. It took me a bit of get on board with this kind of fabric as I have my reservations on how period appropriate it is and in a way it is so comfortable it almost feels wrong, but I have learned to embrace it and love that if feels almost like wearing pajamas or being wrapped up in a favorite blanket. For size reference I took my usual size in this dress. Even though the fabric has a lot of stretch and I know a lot of ladies like to size down in the stretch rayon, I like how my usual size in this dress keeps me from getting pull at the bust.

Needless to say, I decided to keep the dress. Though it wasn't the one I originally ordered, it ended up being the perfect one for me. I had a joke with my husband that I might as well join a Trashy Diva dress of the month club where I just give them my money and they send me anything they wanted as I would probably end up loving it all. In full reality, there are indeed still some cuts I have yet to try which I would love to. I'm hoping that for those cuts the right prints will come along one day. Another day Camilla, another day...

Matching Your Dress to Your Teaware Part 31: Sweet Strawberries for Spring and Summer

Hello Kittens!

It's been a while since I've done one of these perfect pairing posts so I believe it is more than due time for one! When I first saw the new Berry Chantilly print from Trashy Diva released a couple months ago I knew it would be the perfect print to go with my strawberry tea cozy. <3

I bought this tea cozy from Stash Tea about a year ago (unfortunately though it's long sold out now). This adorable knit tea cozy is made in the form of a ripe strawberry and features a mound of leaves and daisies at the top and three cute decorative strawberries dangling down the side. It has a hole at the bottom as well as two holes on the side to be able to pop over any standard sized brown betty shaped teapot. Putting on a tea cozy is like popping a little sweater over your teapot to keep your fresh brew nice and warm as you leisurely relax and sip away.

This tea cozy is the cutest thing to go with Trashy Diva's new Berry Chantilly print. Launched in early March, the Berry Chantilly print is a welcome sight and reminder that spring has sprung and the warm weather will be upon us soon. This print features ripe red strawberries on and off the vine with green leaves and white blooming spring flowers against a buttery yellow background. White ribbons and dainty parasols whimsically pervades the print leaving one with the feeling of dancing a waltz to the sound of spring and summer approaching.

How perfect a match made all the more perfect accompanied by a cup of strawberry herbal tea or for those on the wilder side, a strawberry infused black tea blend!

*Stay tuned for my full review of this gorgeous print from Trashy Diva coming soonish!

Outfit of the Day: Putting a Spring in My Step

Hello Kittens!

Wow time really has flown by. I didn't mean to take such a long break from the blog but I blinked and before I knew it, it's been nearly a month since my last blog post.

Well, here are some Outfit of the Days to catch up on....

Outfit of the Day (Saturday):

A couple weeks ago on a Saturday some friends were throwing a Rex Manning Party (to celebrate Rex Manning day-- a throwback to the 90's movie, Empire Records). While I love any excuse to dress in theme and 90's would have been a fun theme to play with I really really wanted to wear this skirt that I had just got a few days prior from Trashy Diva so all 90's was off and Trashy Diva it was! :D

Skirt: Trashy Diva Gathered Skirt in Carnival print (bought from Trashy Diva)
Top: Trashy Diva Trixie Top in Citron (bought from Trashy Diva)
Cardigan: Heart of Haute Sweetie Wrap Cardigan (bought from Trashy Diva)
Shoes: Basic Black Flats (old- bought from Nordstrom Rack)

Outfit of the Day (Saturday):

The next weekend, after my usual sailing class with hair still wet after a shower, I went out with some friends for a casual dinner and a stop at our local 80's arcade, High Scores.

Dress: Trashy Diva Trixie dress in Ruffled Feathers (bought from ebay)
Cardigan: Cherokee Cardigan in light blue (old- bought from Target)
Shoes: Basic Black Flats (old- bought from Nordstrom Rack)

Outfit of the Day (Easter Sunday):

I was hoping to re-wear my Easter outfit from last year but it was such a dreary grey cold day, I just wasn't really feeling it this year. Instead I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Maria dress out to Easter brunch.

Dress: Trashy Diva Maria dress in Yellow Mums (old- originally bought from ebay size traded in a dress swap group)
Cardigan: Vintage white beaded Cardigan (old- bought from Etsy)
Shoes: Gabriella Rocha (old- bought from Zappos)

Outfit of the Day: Springing Forward

Last weekend we sprang forward in more ways than just the change in daylight savings time

Suddenly, the weather went from the midst of winter into full blown summer! The sun was shining and boy was it WARM! I couldn't help but get out some separates and dress for the occasion.

Outfit of the Day (Saturday):

I've been taking sailing lessons through a local sailing club which I've been going to on as many Saturdays as I can manage. Unfortunately, we aren't allowed to bring cell phones or cameras on the boat (and for good reason as distractions would be bad-- not to mention water on the electronics would also be bad if we capsize). I'd imagine, the pics probably wouldn't be too blog friendly anyhow as we are geared up in wetsuits and foulies anyhow. But in any case, that's what I've been up to and so my Saturday activities otherwise have been limited. After my sailing lesson Tim and I did get out and about a bit to do some errands which granted me the opportunity to dress as I please. Seeing as the weather was so great I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Louise blouse in Crepe Myrtle and my Trashy Diva Circle skirt in chambray. Keeping it simple, I wore this with some basic black flats and off we went to the hardware store, Target, and to pick up dinner.

Outfit of the Day (Sunday):

On Sunday Tim and I went to a bbq celebrating several friends' birthdays. The party was going to be right on the water so Tim wanted to bring his jet ski for everyone to play with. The plan was to take the jet ski out to a nearby estuary where we could launch it and then ride it over to where the party was going to be. As fun as it was I did have to tweak my outfit a bit to make it jet ski riding friendly. And so for this day, I decided to wear some high waisted capri jeans by a brand called Fervour which I got from Modcloth several years ago, paired with a sailor tie top by Tatyana which I also got a couple years ago. To keep warm I wore this with a navy and white polka dot cardigan by Croft and Barrow from Kohl's from a couple years ago. For a finishing touch I wore this with a red belt which I took from one of my Hell Bunny dresses, and while I pictured this outfit here with my red Vans I actually just ended up wearing my flip flops all day.

And just like that, the winter is starting to rear it's head again as the overcast grey clouds dominate the days during the second half of this week. I know soon though it will be spring again. I'm so looking forward to the warm weather to come back again!

Outfit of the Day: Back in Black

I noticed I've been wearing a lot of black lately

It hasn't at all been intentional. Maybe it's the cold dreary days that have been influencing my outfit choices. Maybe subconsciously I've been picking out dresses to take refuge in, like going into a dark cave for the winter months like bears do.

In any case, here are three more Outfit of the Days that I've worn recently. One, the weekend before last last weekend going out to the movies, another out to see the ballet that same weekend, and another from last last week, out celebrating my husband and I's five year wedding anniversary.

Outfit of the Day (couple of weekends ago Saturday):

On this day I felt that my Trashy Diva Honey Ruffle dress in 5th Ave Floral was calling to me. It has a really fancy contrast pink top (see it from this past OOTD post here) so I decided to try and make it a bit more casual by wearing this with a black cardigan buttoned up which I got several years ago from a shop in Australia. For a finishing touch I paired this with an Erstwilder bow brooch which I believe I bought a couple months ago from Cats Like Us, and is my usual, also wore this with a pair of black flats.

Outfit of the Day (that same weekend Sunday):

The next day on Sunday I went out with some friends to see The San Francisco Ballet perform Frankenstein! It was the North American premier of the show and an amazing performance. For the event I wanted to wear a special dress. I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Katherine dress in Peacock. The peacock design on this dress is actually embroidered all around the dress. It is quite stunning in person and was one of two very first Trashy Diva dresses I ever bought. Going to SF I knew to layer up. I paired this with a black cardigan, which I got several years ago from a shop in Australia, and a black coat by LUX which I took from my sister's closet several years ago. She got it several years ago from Nordstrom. For added warmth I also wore a pair of nude back seam tights, for comfort I wore a pair of black flats, and for a finishing touch, I wore a pair of black sparkly bow stud earrings which I got from a local vintage repro shop, Vintage Alley.

Outfit of the Day (last last Friday):

On Friday a few weeks ago my husband and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary! We went out to celebrate at my favorite local fancy French restaurant, Le Papillon. For the occasion I  decided to wear a dress that made me feel beautiful and fancy yet was comfortable, my Trashy Diva 1940's Flutter dress in Cherries. I paired this with my black cardigan and for a change wore this with a pair of B.A.I.T. Ione heels in black and cream which I got from Pinup Girl Clothing a couple years ago. For a finishing touch, I put some small hair flowers (from Forever 21 from several years ago) in my hair and also wore a pair of 1920's style dangle earrings by 1928 which I got from Macy's several years ago.
