Outfit of the Day: Cool Watercolors on a Cool Day

Getting back into the swing of things, here is an Outfit of the Day post featuring a dress I wore on our first weekend back home.

Outfit of the Day:

On Saturday, the first weekend after we came home from our Florida trip, Tim and I went out to the nearby town of Alameda to play at the arcade. We were leaving the house later in the day so I took these pics outside as opposed to my usual (safe) indoor spot. For this day's activities I decided to wear my new to me Trashy Diva Americana dress in Cool Watercolors. I wore this with a navy MAK cardigan which I got from Modcloth a couple years ago, purple opaque tights, a mustard beret which I just bought a few weeks ago from Forever 21, and a pair of black ankle strap flats by Blowfish which I got a couple years ago from Zappos.

Outfit of the Day: Three More Fall Looks for October

Hello Kittens!

It's that time of week again. Another Outfit of the Day roundup is here! :D

Outfit of the Day (Saturday):

Tim took me out for breakfast. I love going out for breakfast especially when it entails eating something super sweet like my white chocolate chip pancakes with strawberries and cream cheese frosting were! After breakfast we made a stop by Spirit, the Halloween store which was in the same shopping center as where we went for breakfast. I love browsing through the Halloween store, playing with all the animatronics, and seeing what things they have stocked. I was super happy to find a green and red Freddy Krueger sweater to wear not only around Halloween but also Christmas and year round! We rounded out the morning with a visit to Tim's mom's and then did some errands shopping for things for Tim to use to make his Halloween costume this year.

I just got this Vintage Striped blouse by Voodoo Vixen from Cats Like Us last week and couldn't wait to wear it out! I paired this with a black swing skirt by Steady which I bought from Unique Vintage a couple years ago. For shoes I decided to wear my School Issue saddle shoes which I bought from Zappos earlier this year. For a finishing touch I wore a pair of cat stud earrings by Rosita Bonita which I bought from Trashy Diva last year and also added the Very Eerie Black Bat pin by Lumpy Buttons which I ordered along with the Vintage Stripped blouse from Cats Like Us. I couldn't be more pleased with the way the two look together! <3 Also, I just have to say, I love Cats Like Us! They have such awesome customer service and were so great changing out the size of the shirt for me when I decided to go with a different size after placing my order! <3

Outfit of the Day (Saturday Evening):

Later that same day Tim and I went out to a friend's house for a house warming party. We got refreshed and changed before leaving for the evening. I decided to wear my Trashy Diva 40's dress in Mini Fleur for the occasion which I paired with basic black flats and a pair of Halloween cat earrings by Rosita Bonita which I bought from Trashy Diva last year.

Outfit of the Day (Sunday):

On Sunday we kind of spent the day wandering around. We started the day going to downtown Pleasanton to go to a vintage and repro houseware store I've been wanting to check out. They carry lots of vintage Halloween items such as reproduction paper mache lanterns. I was hoping I would see some vintage Halloween cat stuff but I didn't see much in the way of cats so I didn't pick anything up. While we were in downtown Pleasanton I was happy to see that we happened to be there during their annual vintage street market. We took the time to browse through some stalls but again didn't end up getting anything. We then went out for lunch at the mall, did a little more window shopping, then went to the 80's arcade by our house. It was a fun day and not bad for just wandering around a bit.

For this day I decided to wear a dress I haven't worn in a while, my Trashy Diva Ava dress in Sketchy Cherries. I paired this with some basic blat flats and a pair of gold colored ball stud earrings I bought from Forever 21 last year. For a finishing touch, I added my Freddy Krueger cat brooch which I bought from the etsy shop, Danielle V Green a couple months ago.

Outfit of the Day: Firsts of Fall

Hello Kittens!

I've been surprising myself lately by having a semblance of an actual blog schedule! And so somewhat as usual these days, here is my most recent offerings for an Outfit of the Day post featuring outfits from this past week/weekend. :)

Outfit of the Day (Wednesday):

This past week my husband and I took my mother-in-law out for a belated birthday dinner. It just so happens it was officially the last day of summer that day and so I got to sneak in just one final summer outfit of the season. For this occasion I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Bonita dress in Cactus Rouge which is perhaps my all time favorite Summer to Fall transition dress. It's such a great print that works (in my opinion) equally well as a summer or fall dress because of the fun all over cactus print and the vivid blood red and muted cream colors. I paired this with a red cardigan which I got from Nordstrom Rack a few years ago, and a pair of Easy Spirit nude flats which I also got from Nordstrom Rack last year.

Outfit of the Day (Saturday):

On Saturday my husband and I went out to lunch and then ran errands and looked at Halloween decorations at the shops. I've been dreaming of starting the Fall with this 60's inspired dress, the Doll About You dress by Blessed Buttons Clothing, which I got from Modcloth a few years ago. While this dress could work equally well as a summer dress, because of its solid black color with accents of white, to me it really screams Fall. I wore this with a pair of basic black flats which I believe I got from Nordstrom Rack several years ago. For a finishing touch I paired this with fun 60's inspired earrings which I got from Luxulite on Etsy a few months ago.

Also, as you can see, this past weekend we got out our Halloween decorations! I'm looking forward to all the fun Fall activities and more Fall outfits!

Do you have a particular thing you like to do or wear for Fall?

Outfit of the Day: Vintage Butterflies

Hola Mi Amigas

While there's a touch of autumn in the air and my mind wanders to the excitement of pumpkin patches, corn mazes, Halloween, and all things plaid and pumpkin spice excitedly looking forward to the fall and all the fall outfits I have to play with, I've decided for the last two weekends of Summer to live it up with the last of summer outfits for the year!

September 22nd officially marks the start of Fall this year here in the northern hemisphere and so this past weekend was the second to last weekend left remaining in Summer. On Saturday I went out with a friend to the Vintage Fashion Expo in San Francisco. It was my second time going and like the first time, going this year did not disappoint... well not at least too much. I was a little sad to see that rather than having two rooms open this year, only one room was open. Also, while last year we were able to go to an impromptu tea at the Secret Garden Tea House just across the street, the tea room was closed for renovations the day we were there. In any case, it was a good vintage fair. I always love ogling all the beautiful vintage items there (even though most where out of my price range for vintage), and I also love looking at some of the outfits some of the patrons and seller put together. Overall, there was such lovely things to look at the Vintage Fashion Expo and it was a lovely day out spent with a friend. Sorry I am always so bad at remembering to take pictures while I'm out. I will really try to be better at this in the future. In any case, here are pics of my Outfit of the Day.

Outfit of the Day:

Whenever I go to vintage fashion fairs I like to try and dress in true vintage for the event. For this day, I did a mix of vintage and vintage reproduction. I wore a vintage 1950's butterfly skirt which I got about a year ago on a facebook swap and sell group (last worn here), paired with a black Trashy Diva Trixie top and a black Trashy Diva Obi belt both of which I got earlier in the year. Because I knew it was going to be cool in the city, I paired this with a 1960's yellow floral embroidered cardigan I picked up at the last vintage fair I attended in Alameda earlier this year. I also wore a pair of comfy black flats by Blowfish which I got several years ago from Zappos. For a finishing touch, I wore a pair of basket weave white and gold tone oversized 50's style stud earrings which I got from Modcloth a couple years ago, and for just a little extra fluff in my skirt, wore a petticoat under my skirt which I picked up on Amazon last year.

Outfit of the Day: Jason Kitty, French Kitty

While last weekend was a long one (three days with the Labor Day holiday), it was a pretty low key one.

Outfit of the Day (Saturday):

On Saturday I was out of the house earlier than usual to pick up some bagels for breakfast and then later in the day I went out shopping for jeans at Old Navy and Macy's. It's news to me that major retailers like these are now stocking high waisted jeans! I love that high waisted jeans are back! I hope they will never leave again. Anyhow, when I was picking out what to wear for the day I had it in my mind that this was going to be another modern take on an 80's does 50's look (see my last look here)... I mean heart printed top, chambray skirt?? Sounds pretty 80's influenced to me. But when I had everything on together I realized it didn't really look all that 80's inspired at all, maybe a little 60's school girl geek chic? Anyhow, I dug it, so that is what I wore for the day.

I paired my Trashy Diva Chambray Circle skirt with a red and blue heart printed top (gifted a couple years ago from a friend), a red cropped cardigan I got from Forever 21 several years ago (oh why did I not buy the white and black versions of this cardigan while I was at it!), and classic red Vans. For finishing touches I also added a red belt which I took from one of my Hell Bunny dresses, a new Friday the 13th inspired Jason Kitty brooch which I got from the wonderful Etsy shop DanielleVGreen about a week ago (thank you Junebugs and Georgia Peaches for pointing me in her direction and thank you Danielle for being such a wonderful and accommodating seller). I also wore this with red button stud earrings which I got from a local retro reproduction shop, Vintage Alley, a couple years ago, and a charm bracelet with a Mickey tee charm (I think from Disneyland several years ago) and a cupcake charm another friend made for me several years go.

Outfit of the Day (Sunday):

Sunday was another low key day. In the morning I helped my husband out with some projects he wanted to get done in the backyard and for a reward he took me out to lunch at Chili's. After lunch we wandered around the mall for a bit, checking out the toy store and where they are in the works of putting together the seasonal Halloween haunted house, Fear Overload. We've never been to this one in the mall before but we are definitely looking forward to making it happen this year.

There was no particular reason why I chose this outfit to wear this day other than I knew Autumn will be coming soon and we are on the last few relatively warm enough days to wear this Bernie Dexter Paris dress in Turquoise and Red Frenchie (i.e. Eiffel Tower print). I got this dress just recently as an extra birthday gift from my husband which he got from Zulily. I paired it with a light blue/turquoisey cardigan I got from Target several years ago and red Vans. For a finishing touch I wore my Erstwilder Farrah the French Kitty Brooch and a pair of red floral studs which I got from Forever 21 several years ago.

Matching You Teaware to Your Dresses Part 27: Summertime Comics

There's something about the start of summer that makes me think of comics

Perhaps it's because it's the most perfect time for sitting someplace quiet in the the shade with a stack of comics... Perhaps it's because with the start of summer, it usually means the end of school for school age children, and so it's the memory of this that makes me want to bust out with my stack of comic books? Maybe though it's all the action hero blockbusters that usually come out in time for summer that's got comics on my mind? Whatever the case, I figured with the official start of summer here, I thought it would be the perfect time to do a comic themed perfect pairing on the blog!

I found this adorable and fun comic themed dress online at one of my favorite shops, Cats Like Us. The Pop Art Comic Book dress by Folter features a sweetheart neckline, adjustable straps, elastic at the back, and a back zip. This shorter cotton dress is perfect for the warmer summer months ...and it's currently on sale at Cats Like Us!

When I saw this dress online I knew I had to pair it here for a Perfect Pairing with my comic book themed teapot! I got this Betty Boop teapot the last time I was at Universal Studios in Orlando a couple Novembers ago (you can read all about it here). The comic theme on this teapot immediately caught my eye. The layout of the comic panels is perfect! It fits perfect on each component (the teapot and the tea cup) separately and is just how you would expect to see it in a weekly comic strip. But when placed together mimics how the panels would look in a comic book or graphic novel! It's smaller shape and tea for one design make it perfect for a quiet afternoon spent in a quiet corner alone reading a stack of comics too! Together with this Pop Art Comic Book dress, it is a match made in comic heaven!
