Outfit Of The Day: Sixties Stripes

Hello Kittens!

This past Saturday Tim and I had a few errands to run. It was hardly all work and no play though. To start off with, Tim and I went to the local retro/vintage reproduction shop, Vintage Alley, and had fun shopping for the Mister. Retro style is not Tim's cup of tea but he did humor me by saying let's go get him a few dressy shirts for when we go out to fancier style events. And boy do they have men's shirts galore there! After having a blast shopping we went and had crepes for lunch then on to my mother-in-law's house to check on and play with her kitties while she was away for the weekend. And as I like to do, if you're going to step out, you might as well step out in style!

Outfit of the day:

For this day's activities, since it's still Fall and there's a crisp coolness in the air without being too overly cold, I decided to wear my Bettie Page Fever dress. The Fever dress is perfect for Fall. It has a super cute mod styling that while has a shorter skirt, the longer sleeves keep you nice and warm. I paired this with a pair of navy flats though in retrospect, it may be time for me to get some red flats ;)

The Convivial Celebration Dress At Modcloth

This may be the shortest dress you'll ever see on me!

I was thinking of returning this dress initially because it was actually way shorter than I expected, but my husband convinced me to keep it. Considering that I got it for under $50 with a coupon code at Modcloth, and considering that I already had green T-strap shoes to match, it wasn't too hard for me to be convinced.

This dress is a dark forest green A-line dress with a super cute chelsea collar. I've also seen this type of collar being called a pointed peter pan collar. The material is a combination of polyester, rayon, and spandex which helps keep it wrinkle free, gives it a good drape, and allows some stretch for a good fit. This dress features a tailored fit on top from the pleating and hemline under the bust, has a super fitted waist, and has a very nicely flared skirt. I love the A-line silhouette of this dress. The A-line sihouette in combination with the short length and sleeves gives it a very 1960's style and feel. I can't quiet tell if the name of this brand is Ixia, Lxia or 1xia, but whatever their name they designed a great dress!

For reference I purchased this dress in my usual size large and my measurements are 38-31-38, 5'3".

For fun I threw on a hat I also purchased with this dress from Modcloth which together make for a fun summer look.

The Bushels Of Fun hat is made by Kathy Jeanne who also makes the Pure Edith Hat from Modcloth. The Bushels Of Fun hat is a straw hat which features a cluster of cherries on the side. This cloche style hat has a short, drooping brim which is shorter in the back making it easy to wear. Like the Pure Edith Hat the woven texture has a handmade look with the weaving and color of the straw being a little inconsistent at spots. I've been looking for a summer hat with cherries on it since I saw the Louise Green Cherry Doll Hat which is one that I still love but is way out of my price point for hats. This hat by Kathy Jeanne, while not the Louise Green Cherry Doll Hat, is way more modestly priced and is a fun one to have.

Heart of Haute and their hot mod styles!

I love Heart of Haute (formally known as Heartbreaker Fashion). I especially love them when I catch a good Heart of Haute outlet sale!

This past week Heart of Haute was offering 50% off everything on their sales rack. I snapped up their Etta dress in Blue Anchors and their Ruby dress in Kitties!

I've had my eye on the Etta dress since it first made its debut last year. As some readers may have noticed I have quite a penchant for neck bows! I just adore the high neck and front bow on this dress which is charmingly balanced by the shorter mod-style skirt. I just love 1960's mod style so much! It's so different from the 1950's while still sharing some of the same elements I love: high neck, bow detail at neck, flared skirt. This dress fits my 38-30-38 frame a little big at the bust but it's nothing that isn't wearable as is. What I was most impressed with with this dress, aside from the beautiful design and lovely fabric, was the fact that the front buttons didn't gap. Whenever I try on a dress for the first time with front buttons there is always just a little bit of dread that settles into my heart before I have the dress on. More often then not the front buttons will gap where I will be forced to decide do I not get/keep the dress or am I just going to have to pin the dress shut every time I wear it. It is always such a happy surprise when the front buttons don't gap!

As for the length of the dress, this dress fits my 5'3" frame just  above the knees which is a good enough mod length for me! I don't like going too short! ;)

The Ruby dress in Kitties was a surprising LOVE at first fitting. I love dresses with cats on them... actually I love almost anything with cats on them but especially dresses. Currently I have quite a few cat dresses in my collection so have been slowing down on buying them... I was not planning on buying this dress but when I saw the $35 sale price tag and I knew I was already going to be paying for shipping for the Etta dress, I figured I'd be a fool not to get this cute kitty dress.

This dress fits like a dream! I'm always surprised at how Heart of Haute can create such flattering dresses on me while being made out of 100% cotton! This, like their Sailor dress and Sweetie dress fit like it was custom made just for me! I love everything about this dress from the fit, and cute fabric choice, to the sweet 60's style emanating from it's shorter hem line and clean and simple cut with smooth uncomplicated peter pan collar.
