End of the Year Outfit Roundup: My Top 10 Outfit of the Days of 2016

I really love putting together these end of the year Outfit of the Day roundup posts

While it's hard to chose which outfits should go in this post, I love looking back on the year at my favorite outfits. What I noticed this year in terms of my top picks is that I really loved mixing and matching separates this year. Also, I remember saying at the beginning of last year that I wanted to experiment more with shoes and hats, From this roundup, I'm glad to see I did in fact do that!

And so, without further ado, in chronological order, here are my top 10 Outfits of Days from 2016:

1) Modcloth Charming on the Quad cape, Steady black swing skirt, gifted dog sweater, with burgundy beret, and white and burgundy Chelsea Crew heels
from January 18

2) True Vintage 1960's pink and green sheath dress, with vintage straw purse, and pink B.A.I.T. heels
from March 28

3) Pinup Girl Clothing Orange Border print skirt, Trashy Diva chambray Trixie top, mustard MAK cropped cardigan, and mustard peep toe flats from Target
from April 28

4) Trashy Diva Trixie dress in Hurricane Ladies, vintage beaded pink cardigan, pink beret, and pink B.A.I.T. shoes
from June 13

5) Trashy Diva Louise Blouse in Turquoise Floral, Trashy Diva Chambray Circle skirt, and nude bow Pazzo flats
from June 18

6) Trashy Diva Sweetie dress in Pearl Harbor, vintage straw purse, and fruit fascinator made by me
from June 18

7) Pinup Girl Clothing Darling Dames skirt in Venus Fly Trap, Trashy Diva black Trixie top, purple cardigan, and Jessica Simpson flats
from July 21

8) Trashy Diva Annette dress in French Quarter, black cardigan, cat sweater clips, and basic black flats
from October 25

9) Target Wrap Wool Shawl collar coat, Steady black swing skirt, Trashy Diva Ashley blouse in Wine Dots, black asymmetric cloche hat, and Naya bow heels
from December 10

10) Target red wool toggle coat, Trashy Diva Audrey dress in black velvet, Heart of Haute Estelle blouse in cherries, red beret, and Miss L Fire heels
Posted January 7 but worn December 25

Going into 2017 I don't have any style goals like I did last year. I'm guessing from my most current outfits that there will probably more mixing and matching of separates which I love. I've also been doing a fair bit more trouser wearing-- perhaps there will be more of that even once the warmer months start to hit?

What are your style goals for 2017?

Until next time kittens! :)

Outfit of the Day: Final Weekends in August

I'm always just a little delayed posting my Outfit of the Days

It maybe the first weekend of September now but here are three Outfits of the Day from the last two weekends in August. Saying goodbye to August would be a lot more bittersweet if we weren't moving into my all time favorite season, Autumn!

Anyhow, here we go!

Outfit of the Day (last last Saturday):

The weekend before last weekend my friends and I spent a day at the beach. It was a cooler day at the beach but it was nice to be out in the sun and spending time chatting it up with my friends.

For this day's occasion I wore my Trashy Diva Chambray Circle skirt, a yellow Gap gingham top I found on ebay a few months ago, red Ecco flats also from ebay from several months ago, and a red cardigan I got from Nordstrom Rack several years ago. For a finishing touch I wore red floral studs from Forever 21 several years ago, an oversized sun hat (my biggest hat ever) which I got from Trashy Diva earlier this summer, and a watermelon shaped straw purse which I got from ebay a couple weeks ago.

Outfit of the Day (last last Sunday):

The next day, on Sunday I spent the day out and about with my husband. We were planning on going to the local zucchini festival in town but when we got there decided against it and instead decided to check out the Marina in nearby San Leandro. The marina is a nice nature area with a huge park adjacent to it. There were lots of people out walking the trails, playing in the parks, and catching some pokemon. It was a fun day. I didn't get any pics while we were out there but I'm sure we will be going back again!

For this day's activities I wore a Bettie Page/Tatyana circle skirt jumper in green paired with a Trashy Diva Louise blouse in Crepe Myrtle. I wore this with a pair of basic black flats. For a finishing touch I wore a boater hat I got from Nordstrom last year.

Outfit of the Day (last Sunday):

Last Sunday my husband and I decided to go out for a bit to one of our favorite nearby towns, Alameda, to play indoor golf and then play at the 80's arcade. It was fun to check out this new to us indoor golf place and it was also fun changing venues a bit and going to the 80's arcade in Alameda after spending lots of time playing at the newly opened 80's arcade in our town.

As I had mentioned in one of my earlier posts, Outfit of the Day: 1987, I have really been in the mood for 80's style. Lately it's been more like 80's everything... 80's music, 80's movies, 80's arcades, and 80's style! This outfit was my fun take on a 2010's version of 80's does 50's. ;)

I got this fun pastel striped skirt, the Aspiration Creation Skirt, from Modcloth a few weeks ago. It is one of their own branded items. I paired this skirt with the Enchanting Epilogue Sleep top (also from Modcloth from a few weeks ago). When I bought the top I was just kind of adding it into my basket because it was on sale and by adding it to my basket I actually saved more than I would spend on it with a coupon code I had. But when it arrived with the skirt I realized that they matched each other pretty well so figured why not wear it as a day top? I also wore a Gap jean jacket I got at Buffalo Exchange several years ago and a pair of B.A.I.T. Dolly Sandals in Fair Pink which I got a few weeks ago from Zulily. For a finishing touch I also wore my new Erstwilder God of Time brooch, a pair of turquoise heart studs from Forever 21 from several years ago, a Coach shoulder strap purse I got from my mother-in-law for Christmas several years ago, red heart shaped sunglasses my husband bought for me from Vans a couple months ago, and a pink scrunchie I picked up from a local shop recently.

Matching Your Dress to Your Teawar Part 20: Miss Mary Poppins!

"Practically perfect in every way" is a perfect description for this Perfect Pairing!

This Mary Poppins teapot with cup and saucer set from the Etsy shop, Second Chance Ceramics, is so incredibly cute and charming! It features illustrations from the original book illustrated by Mary Shepard. I love the layout and attention to detail in this teapot and cup and saucer set, all designed by shop owner Antonia at Second Change Ceramics who recycles white porcelain and stoneware mugs by adding her own handmade decals. This specific design is currently out of stock but there is a plethora of designs available through the shop!

Pairing with this teapot with cup and saucer set is this adorable Louise Green hat! When I first saw this Louise Green Cherry Doll Hat on Trashy Diva's website my thoughts immediately turned to Mary Poppins! I adore this dark woven boater style hat with all its cute attention to detail! I swoon every time I see it. While this particular style is sold out on the Trashy Diva website, Trashy Diva does not have a lack of other wonderful and equally amazing Louise Green hats! Oh how wonderful though, it would be to wear this hat while sipping a cup of tea! A spoonful of sugar and everything would be practically perfect in every way!

Making Little Hats- Cherries Edition!

So now that I finally started working on some DIY hat projects again, I'm on a roll!

The day that I made the last fascinator (see the Carmen Miranda inspired hat here) I also made a black fascinator with cherries but didn't get around to photographing it until just now!

And so without any farther ado, here is the DIY tutorial for a cherry fascinator you can make yourself at home!

Making Little Hats!

1) Start with a fascinator base. I bought this straw base from ebay

 2) Add the decoration of your choice. I start with what I think will best go on the botton layer of the fascinator first... the part closest to the fascinator base.

When adding decoration which is heavy or which might not have an easy time surviving on the hat from just hot glue alone, I like to find a way to sew on the decoration. For these cherries I hot glued the stems together then sewed the stems onto the hat.

To reinforce the stitches, I then hot glued the decoration on over the stitches.

Here is what the back side of the fascinator looks like.
3) Next, if you are adding multiple things to your fascinator, if there are parts overlapping, those overlapping parts should go on next. If you want something overlapping the second layer, add that next, and so on.

I both sewed on and hot glued on the bow.
4) Hot glue your stitching on the underside of the hat too once all your decoration is added!

5) Next, sew on a hair clip, alligator clip, or hair comb. Be sure to pay extra attention to which way you will want the hat to be orientated on your head. If adding a hair clip (like shown) or alligator clip you will want the hair clip to be parallel to the ground when attaching the fascinator to your head. This will give the fascinator a jaunty tilt. If you are adding a hair comb you would want that to be at the front of the hat towards your face with the teeth of the comb facing towards the back of your head.

6) Last, reinforce your stitches with hot glue at the fat end of your hair clip or alligator clip. For a hair comb, you would want the hot glue to be at the long solid edge of the hair comb not touching the teeth.

And here you have the finished product! A new fascinator to wear out and have fun with!
