Outfit of the Day: Space Invaders!

Last weekend on Sunday Tim and I went out to see the new Star Trek movie and then out to the 80's arcade in Alameda

I knew my new Lilac Atomic print dress from Trashy Diva would be the perfect dress for the occasion as I knew my new Space Invaders Space Alien necklace and earrings set would be the perfect accessory to go along with it!

I just recently picked up this necklace set while out at the Fremont Festival of the Arts earlier that weekend from a vendor called Sky Blue Designs. Right away I loved the 80's feel to the necklace and thought that the Space Invaders inspired theme would be perfect not only for wearing to the movies to see Star Trek but also to wear to the 80's arcade! In the future, I know this will be the perfect necklace set to wear for showing support of the new soon to open 80's arcade in our town too in Hayward! ;)

Speaking with the owner and designer at Sky Blue Designs, I was impressed that the charms on this necklace set of their own design was made by them on their 3-d printer. Such a fun concept and cleaver mix of vintage meets modern! If you are as impressed with this necklace as I was I found they are also selling it on their website here. :)

Outfit of the Day: Living for the Weekend

Basically, the title of this post is the truth of things

Monday through Friday I work in a geology lab so I have to be careful what I wear. At any given moment I have to be prepared to crush up rocks or work with strong acids. It could be a clean day or it might be a very wet or dusty day. I am always looking forward to the weekend not only because that is when I get to wear pretty dress but also because that's when the fun begins!

Outfit of the Day (Sunday, last last weekend):

This is my outfit post from last last Sunday when we took the cats in for family portraits. I thought it made sense to separate the outfit pics from the rest of my previous post, so here it is now.

On this day I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Lena dress in Seersucker. For the family portraits I wanted to go matching and it came down to Seersucker or Gingham. I paired this with a rose pink colored cardigan by M.A.K. which I got from Trashy Diva last year and a peach pair of flats by Gabriella Rocha which I got from Zappos several years ago. For a finishing touch I wore a pair of rose stud earrings from Forever 21 also from a few years ago.

Outfit of the Day (Thursday):

While I say I mostly just wear dresses on the weekend there are the occasional times I go out after work midweek to meet up for dinner or whatnot. On Thursday Tim and I met up with his mom for a belated birthday dinner for me. I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Sadie dress in Mini Bows. I paired this with some basic black flats, a black bolero from Kohl's from several years ago and for a finishing touch wore a pair of sparkly black bow shaped earrings (from Vintage Alley from a few years ago) and a black sparkly headband (from Claire's from a few years ago).

Outfit of the Day (Saturday):

Saturday was another fun day! I went out with some friends to the annual Fremont Festival of the Arts. It's one of my favorite summertime activities. It used to be called the Fremont Arts and Wine festival but the city has since then dropped the "wine" part of the name (even though there is wine and margaritas at the event) in an attempt to put more focus on the art and crafts showcased there. I love walking around in the sun going from booth to booth looking at the different things for sale. One of my favorite things for sale is jewelry (which I bought this year), different kinds of food like baked goods, honey, teas, as well as ceramics, woodworking items, paintings, prints, clothes, and hats among other things. It is a great excuse to be out with friends enjoying a leisurely stroll and good conversation.

For this event I decided to wear my Pinup Girl Clothing Jenny dress in Paris print. I paired this with a white belt which I had from a Tatyana dress, a vintage light blue beaded cardigan which I got from the Vintage Fashion Expo in San Francisco last year, and blue flats by Rocket Dog which I got from Zappos several years ago. For a finishing touch I paired this with Erstwilder Farrah the French kitty earrings to go along with the French theme of the dress.

Taking Family Portraits with Cats, and Fox, an introduction

One of the things I really wanted to do for my birthday this year was take the cats in for family portraits

After loosing B.K. earlier this year and my sweet girl Murkurie last year it really solidified to me how unexpected life can be and how quickly things can change. Back in 2008 when Merk was starting to get older I knew I had to take her in and have professional photos taken with her because I knew then, and it killed my heart knowing it, that she would not be with me forever. Now that she is gone I miss her every day but I am comforted being able to see her every day in the photos of her we have around the house. And so with all this in mind, I wanted to capture our family in this moment in time. Also we have two new additions to our household that we didn't have back in 2008 when we first had our family portraits taken, Wolfgang, who's been with us for about 4 years now, and Fox who just joined us a couple months ago.

Since I've never formally introduced Fox, let me do so now. Fox wandered into our yard several months ago and held up residence in our back yard. I was wondering who was sleeping on our outside furniture when I kept finding black fur on the cushions! The mystery was solved when one day saw a black kitty wandering around in the backyard all long limbs and fluffy tail. He looked like a little black fox out there and so we decided to call that one Fox. We put food out for him as we do for all the stray cats that decide to come around but unlike other strays that tend to come and go, this one stuck around for a while, making himself at home in our gazebo on our outdoor couch. Over time we realized that he wasn't a feral at all but was a sweet and friendly boy. When we took him in to the vet to get fixed. We didn't even have to trap him, just picked him up and into the cat carrier he went. At the vet's he was right at home being indoors, roaming around the examining room, rubbing on whoever would pet him. I told my husband, this sweet boy deserves to be inside. And so after checking for and not finding an i.d. chip on him we decided to bring him into our house and make him part of our family. We did wonder though where this sweet boy came from. He was very well mannered and very used to humans. We worried that he might have been someone's lost cat though more likely we expected that he was a cat someone had as a kitten who was abandoned when he got bigger.

Fox has been an interesting character to have around the house. First of all he is a big boy! When he first came to us he was a skinny boy with super long limbs and a big fluffy tail, so he's always been big in terms of frame. But now that he's been in the house for a while (and has gotten neutered) he's gotten big all over and now weights about 17 pounds (and we thought our other son Wolfgang was big!). Another thing that really stands out about Fox to us is that he is a super clumsy cat. We've never seen a cat so clumsy and ungraceful before. The vet suspects, looking at his teeth, that he is only about a year old. That makes sense then that he is so clumsy. It's like he grew into his body too fast and hasn't quite gotten used to his new big body yet. Though I have noticed that the more time passes the more comfortable with his body he becomes. He is not nearly as clumsy and awkward as he first was.

Anyhow, that's Fox in a nutshell. But you are probably wondering about family portraits with cats, so let me jump back to that!

We made an appointment with the Picture People in the mall and went in last Sunday. We decided to bring in our two sons Wolfgang and Fox since they were missing from all the family portraits we have in the house. I told Tim Wolfgang tells me he feels left out and like he's not part of the family since we don't have him in the family pics. ;) We didn't bring all the cats though this time. C.C. Cookie, our girl, we left at home since she is in the other photos. We decided to give her a break and save ourselves from trying to wrangle three kitties in the studio! The whole session only lasted about 20 minutes and I was weary to believe any of the photos came out well since the cats were being crazy and all over the place. I was surprised to see that the photos actually came out pretty well!

And so without further adieu, I present to you the fruits of our labors... family portraits with cats!

Outfit of the Day: Birthday Week!

Last week I got to celebrate my birthday week!

I spent all week going out to celebrate with different people in my family and because I did I have a lot of birthday outfits to share with you all!

Outfit of the Day (birthday week day 1):

For the first of my birthday week dinners I went out with my mom, stepdad, and husband out to eat at my favorite buffet. I ate way too much as one tends to do at buffets, but I loved every minute of it! For this day I decided to wear my Trashy Diva 40's dress in Ruffled Feathers because #1 it's a rooster dress and my Chinese zodiac sign is the rooster! How perfect is that for a birthday dress! And #2 it's made from a super stretchy material, perfect for eating a big meal! I paired this dress with a turquoise camisole I got a few months ago from ebay and red Ecco flats I got last year also from ebay.

Outfit of the Day (birthday week day 2):

On the second day of my birthday week my husband took me out to eat at one of my favorite nearby restaurants, the Olive Garden. I decided to go out wearing one of my all time favorite dresses, my Trashy Diva Country Club dress in Butterflies! I love this print so much and really hope Trashy Diva decides to bring it back sometime in the future. I paired this with basic black flats I bought from Nordstrom Rack a few years ago.

Outfit of the Day (birthday week day 3, part 1):

For Saturday I really had my heart set on going to Trader Vic's, a tiki restaurant in Emeryville (which was a bit too far to go to during the weekday), but when my stepmom called me up earlier that week and said her and my dad wanted to take me out for lunch on Saturday I couldn't turn them down and so went out to eat twice that day! Because it felt like two totally separate things I decided to go with two different looks that day.

For lunch my dad, stepmom, husband, and myself went out for Mexican. This was the same day my dad and stepmom were going to be heading out to Las Vegas for a Star Trek 50th anniversary convention. Because of that event I decided my Trashy Diva Sci Fi Rockets would be the perfect print for the occasion. I paired my Sci Fi Rockets bolero with a dark blue dress I made myself a few years ago. To tie the look together I paired it with a red belt from a Hell Bunny dress I had, red Ecco flats which I got last year from ebay, and a Sci Fi Rockets print headband I made from fabric scraps left over after having my Rockets dress altered. For a finishing touch I wore a pair of white sparkly stud earrings.

Outfit of the Day (birthday week day 3, part 2):

For dinner that evening at Trader Vic's I knew I wanted to go in tiki theme. My Trashy Diva Tie top in Blue Hawaii was just the perfect thing! I paired this with the same blue dress I was wearing earlier that day, switching out not only the top but also the belt, shoes, and accessories. I wore a pair of blue heels by Chelsea Crew which I found last year on ebay, a pair of bamboo dangle hoops which I bought from Pin Up Girl Clothing a few months ago, and a plumeria hair flower my husband bought for me while we were on vacation in Hawaii earlier this year.

Outfit of the Day: Luck of the Irish

Last Sunday my husband and I went out to catch some Pokemon

I didn't really think too hard about what I was going to wear as we were just planning on making a quick trip to the downtown area in town and then go pick up some dinner but I ended up wearing my Trashy Diva Streetcar dress in Irish Polka which now seems pretty fitting for both the day and the title of this blog post ;)

Outfit of the Day:

For this day I wore my Trashy Diva Streetcar dress in Irish Polka. Because it was so hot outside I decided to forgo wearing the necktie with it and opted to wear this dress with the collar open. I paired this dress with a pair of basic black flats.
