Outfit of the Day: Living for the Weekend

Basically, the title of this post is the truth of things

Monday through Friday I work in a geology lab so I have to be careful what I wear. At any given moment I have to be prepared to crush up rocks or work with strong acids. It could be a clean day or it might be a very wet or dusty day. I am always looking forward to the weekend not only because that is when I get to wear pretty dress but also because that's when the fun begins!

Outfit of the Day (Sunday, last last weekend):

This is my outfit post from last last Sunday when we took the cats in for family portraits. I thought it made sense to separate the outfit pics from the rest of my previous post, so here it is now.

On this day I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Lena dress in Seersucker. For the family portraits I wanted to go matching and it came down to Seersucker or Gingham. I paired this with a rose pink colored cardigan by M.A.K. which I got from Trashy Diva last year and a peach pair of flats by Gabriella Rocha which I got from Zappos several years ago. For a finishing touch I wore a pair of rose stud earrings from Forever 21 also from a few years ago.

Outfit of the Day (Thursday):

While I say I mostly just wear dresses on the weekend there are the occasional times I go out after work midweek to meet up for dinner or whatnot. On Thursday Tim and I met up with his mom for a belated birthday dinner for me. I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Sadie dress in Mini Bows. I paired this with some basic black flats, a black bolero from Kohl's from several years ago and for a finishing touch wore a pair of sparkly black bow shaped earrings (from Vintage Alley from a few years ago) and a black sparkly headband (from Claire's from a few years ago).

Outfit of the Day (Saturday):

Saturday was another fun day! I went out with some friends to the annual Fremont Festival of the Arts. It's one of my favorite summertime activities. It used to be called the Fremont Arts and Wine festival but the city has since then dropped the "wine" part of the name (even though there is wine and margaritas at the event) in an attempt to put more focus on the art and crafts showcased there. I love walking around in the sun going from booth to booth looking at the different things for sale. One of my favorite things for sale is jewelry (which I bought this year), different kinds of food like baked goods, honey, teas, as well as ceramics, woodworking items, paintings, prints, clothes, and hats among other things. It is a great excuse to be out with friends enjoying a leisurely stroll and good conversation.

For this event I decided to wear my Pinup Girl Clothing Jenny dress in Paris print. I paired this with a white belt which I had from a Tatyana dress, a vintage light blue beaded cardigan which I got from the Vintage Fashion Expo in San Francisco last year, and blue flats by Rocket Dog which I got from Zappos several years ago. For a finishing touch I paired this with Erstwilder Farrah the French kitty earrings to go along with the French theme of the dress.

Dress Review: Trashy Diva Seersucker for Summer

Last year Trashy Diva came out with their seersucker collection.

I tried real hard to be real good and convinced myself I would pass on dresses in this collection. To make myself feel better I even made my own seersucker dress. Fast forward to this year just before spring hit, Trashy Diva re-released/re-stocked their seersucker! For Trashy Diva, this was such a rare thing to have been done. And tried as hard as I did last year, I couldn't let these dresses pass me up again. Not only did I end up with one dress in seersucker but in the course of 2-3 months I actually acquired two of their seersucker dresses.

Trashy Diva's Lena dress in seersucker was the undisputed favorite of all the seersucker dresses. Before the restock earlier this year this dress was nearly all sold out. After the restock, it didn't take long for this one to start selling out again! The Lena dress is a halter style dress with a full circle skirt, and a supportive, fully lined, shelf bust in contrasting white. The neck strap has functioning buttons rather than the tie of most of Trashy Diva's halter dresses. The dress also has elasticized side panels to ensure a great fit.

In contrast, Trashy Diva's Apple Tart dress (also in seersucker) features skinny straps at the shoulders (rather than the halter style top), a ruffled bust, and the full skirt is fully gathered. While this dress appears not to be as popular as the Lena (judging from it not selling out as quickly as the Lena did both times), I still cannot decide which of the two is my personal favorite. I could say however, that while the Lena needed no adjustments or alterations for a perfect fit, the Apple Tart did require a little bit of tweaking. I was getting a lot of bunching in the dress at the underbust, even though the dress felt like it fit and even though I ordered it in my usual size. This was a problem easily solved though by adjusting the straps to be a little shorter. Also because the bust is a little more open on this style I added a stitch right at the center of the bust to keep it from exposing more than I like.

I'm so glad that Trashy Diva decided to re-release this collection. I can't believe I almost let these ones get away!
