Outfit of the Day: Luck of the Irish

Last Sunday my husband and I went out to catch some Pokemon

I didn't really think too hard about what I was going to wear as we were just planning on making a quick trip to the downtown area in town and then go pick up some dinner but I ended up wearing my Trashy Diva Streetcar dress in Irish Polka which now seems pretty fitting for both the day and the title of this blog post ;)

Outfit of the Day:

For this day I wore my Trashy Diva Streetcar dress in Irish Polka. Because it was so hot outside I decided to forgo wearing the necktie with it and opted to wear this dress with the collar open. I paired this dress with a pair of basic black flats.

Outfit of the Day: A Walk in the Woods and A Day With Keanu

Last weekend was a well spent one

On Saturday Tim and I took a walk around one of our nearby lakes, Don Castro Lake. This is one of my favorite lakes to walk around because the footpath becomes very narrow in places and is little more than a patch of worn bare dirt surrounded by trees and lush undergrowth for the better part of the path. Walking along this quiet lake, tramping through this densely grown footpath, it is easy to forget we are so close to civilization, and not hard to image we are deep in a forest somewhere.

On Sunday, we changed it up a bit by going to the nearby historic waterfront town of Alameda where we met up with a friend and saw the new Key and Peele cat comedy movie, Keanu, at the newly renovated historic Alameda theater. We all enjoyed the movie a lot. And then, for an extra treat, enjoyed playing at the 80's arcade, High Score, across the street.

It was a great weekend and was definitely good to get out in a relaxed kind of way.

Outfit of the Day (Saturday):
For the walk around the lake I picked my Trashy Diva Dorothy dress in Irish Polka. I love how easy to wear and how comfortable this dress is. Because we were going to do a lot of walking, I paired this with black Sketcher Go Walks, my go to shoes for heavy walking while in a dress.

Outfit of the Day (Sunday):
Because we were off to see a cat comedy I knew I had to dress in cat theme. I figured my Trashy Diva Cage dress in Smoke Leopard would be the perfect dress. After all, it was a gangster themed cat comedy. ;) I paired this with a black knit bolero by Elle which I got from Kohl's a couple years ago, and a pair of basic black flats. For a finishing touch, and to add some fun little cat details, I also wore this with a pair of oversized cat cameo stud earrings I got a couple years ago from a local retro shop, Vintage Alley, and a cute kitty brooch by Lumpy Buttons which I got c/o Cats Like Us last year. I also added a black sequin headband to my outfit to jazz things up even more.

Outfit of the Day: Multiple Outfit Roundup

Hello Kittens

A couple weeks ago was my birthday week and I was out and about celebrating with friends and family. While I have a ton of Outfit of the Day pics to share which I've kind of been keeping up with, I haven't been keeping up with my outfit posts completely, so I'm just going to do a bunch of them in this one Outfit of the Day post.

Outfit of the Day:
Sunday:
A couple weeks ago on Sunday Tim took me out to see Ant Man! I wanted to dress in Marvel colors and wore what my friend would call my comic book color dress! The movie was awesome by the way. One of my favorite recent Marvel movies. For this day's activities I wore a Trashy Diva Dottie dress in tribal print. I paired this with a mustard yellow cropped cardigan from Trashy Diva, yellow peep toe flats from Target and a yellow hair flower from Cats Like Us.

Friday:
On a Friday I took the day off to do my annual doctors visits for routine checkups. For this day I wore one of my most comfortable dresses, my Trashy Diva Dorothy dress in Irish Polka. I paired this with a green cropped cardigan I got from Modcloth and basic black flats.

Wednesday :
On Wednesday I went out to dinner for Thai with my mom and husband after work. For something extra special to wear I wore the butterfly dress I've been borrowing from a friend. I paired this with a yellow cropped cardigan from Trashy Diva and basic black flats.

Friday:
On Friday, I went out to eat with my mother in law and husband to one of my favorite places to eat, the Olive Garden. Picking out an extra special dress, I wore the most special dress I own, a Trashy Diva Trixie dress in Hurricane print which was gifted to me earlier this year. I paired this with a black mohair cropped cardigan and basic black flats.

Saturday:
On Saturday the nearby city of Fremont was having their annual Fremont Festival of the Arts. Like Hayward's Walk of Wine, I always look forward to going to this event. It's fun walking around in the sun looking at different arts and crafts booths and enjoying the day with friends. For this day's activities I wore a Trashy Diva Trixie dress in red gingham which I got for my birthday from my husband this year. I paired this with my red vans and a fun cherries necklace I got from Modcloth about a year ago. In hindsight I should have tried harder to find the shorter socks that are somewhere in my drawers though! :O lol

Dress Review: Trashy Diva in Irish Polka

It's been quite a while since I posted any dress reviews.

I would like to say it's been because I've been good and haven't been making any new dress purchases, but that would just be a fabrication. While most of my dress purchases have been older dresses I've gotten through swap and sell avenues I have been doing a fair share of purchasing new as well.

Earlier in the winter at the very start of 2015 Trashy Diva released their Irish Polka print. While I initially had decided to pass on anything in this print thinking polka dots are just polka dots, I eventually got won over by Trashy Diva's beautiful cuts and styles! I excitedly placed my order for a Streetcar dress and an Ashley blouse and skirt set thinking most likely something wasn't going to fit as I've heard that lots of ladies were having problems with sizing, and also convincing myself that even if both the dress and the separates set work out I will just return which ever out of the two I like the least. And though this was completely unplanned, while I waited for my order to arrive Tim and I decided to take a day trip to Santa Cruz and made a stop at the super awesome retro and vintage clothing shop out there, Cognito, which you can read about in this post here. I just wanted to pop into this shop just to see what they had but I ended up leaving with, would you know it, a Trashy Diva dress in the Irish Polka print (the Dorothy dress)! I was doubly convinced that something in my order from Trashy Diva (which was still on its way) was going to have to be returned because the dress I got at Cognito I ended up loving so much I couldn't stop myself from buying it. And it was a style I never would have thought of trying if I didn't happen upon it in the store.

Like a true shopping addict though, when my order arrived I loved everything I got. Everything was a perfect fit (thanks to their wonderful customer service staff who helped me pick out the perfect size in everything), and while everything was in Irish Polka print, the styles were different enough that I didn't want to part with anything.

Keeping the Dorothy was an easy decision as it was a final sale buying it in the store ;). But when it came to which of the two from Trashy Diva to return, that was a much harder decision than I anticipated. For one, the dress I got, the Streetcar, is my all time favorite cut that Trashy Diva makes (at least out of the styles that I've tried). It has a fully detachable high neck bow which makes this dress very versatile since it can be worn three different ways: with the neck bow attached, with the neck bow not attached but with a mandarin style collar, or with the neck bow not attached with the collar open. And while the gathered skirt of this dress seemed shorter than other Streetcar dresses I have, it gave the dress a super fun feel to it. On the other end of things, the separates I got, the Ashley blouse and skirt, had such a classic 1940's look to it. This set was love at first sight when I first saw it on Trashy Diva's blog. Not only did I love the way it looked and felt, I loved that as a separates set it was so versatile and could be worn with so many things I already owned. It can be worn as the two piece set to make it look like a dress, it could be worn with my Collectif wide leg suspender pants for a super 1940's look, it could be worn with my Tatyana pencil skirt jumper to give it a chic and sophisticated 40's look, and the skirt could be worn with oh so many tops! Also, I liked the idea that I could wear the top to work as well.

I put it to a vote and everyone I asked said to keep the separates for sure but when I started making arrangements to send back the Streetcar dress I knew that it would be something I would regret later. After all, the Streetcar is my favorite style of dress from Trashy Diva, and on their website they were already fully sold out in my size. Also, I had a pair of shoes that matched perfectly with the Irish Polka print (Chelsea Crew Dark Green Ida Kitten Heels) so why not have multiple things to wear with these shoes! ;) I know it's a little bit of faulty logic there, but for me I can live with it. And so in the end I decided to keep them all. :)
