Outfit of the Day: His Girl Friday

On Saturday Tim and I went to a farewell party for a friend who's going to Italy for a year

It was a chilly night so I thought my Stop Staring 3/4 sleeve sweater dress would be perfect. It's a black with white polka dot dress so I didn't really want to mix in colors like I did the last time I wore this dress. Instead I decided to keep to the black and white basics and so I pulled out my black over coat and black dotty tights to keep me warm. Keeping true to my style goals for 2016 I picked out a black and grey fedora I though would look good with this and some black heels to dress it all up a bit. I did not realize how 1940's gangster this was going to turn out! It was an unexpected and unintentional His Girl Friday look that I pulled together but I like it!

Outfit of the Day:
For this days outfit I wore my Stop Staring Samantha dress in black with white dot I got from Modern Pinup (formerly JBR Clothing) during a black Friday sale a couple years ago, a black overcoat by Double Zero I got from Modcloth a few years ago for a steal, black sheer with black polka dot tights from Nordstrom Rack also from a few years ago, black heels from Soft Spots which I got from Zappos several years ago, and a black and grey asymmetric fedora by Adora I got from Trashy Diva a couple months ago during their Black Friday sale. For a fishing touch I wore this with some 1920's inspired dangle earrings by 1928 which I got from Macy's back when I was in high school!

Dress Review: Trashy Diva's Victory Floral For The Win

Just before Christmas Trashy Diva released their newest print, Victory Floral!

This dress falls into Trashy Diva's knit rayon collection like the Jennys and Mansfields from a few years back. But unlike the sweater-ish thicker jersey-type feel of the Jennys and Mansfields from their solid knit rayon collection, the rayon for this collection is a lot more lightweight with a soft linen like textured feel to it. This is the loveliest rayon fabric that I've ever seen on any of Trashy Diva's dresses. It is soft and stretchy, super comfortable, yet has a great flow and wears extremely well.

The fabric on this dress is not the only thing new in this collection. The cut I picked out, the Louise dress, is also an all new design, one of three in fact, by the company. The Louise is a somewhat simplistic cut which is easy to throw on and look fabulous without any muss or fuss. It features a modest-conscious front v-neckline, a flattering back v-neckline, ruching at the bust, slightly capped sleeves, and a flattering flowy circle skirt. It also features an invisible side zip which allows for uninterrupted print on the back of the dress. This collection came in six different dresses to choose from which, as mentioned before, includes three completely new cuts as well as the long awaited return of the Sadie Ruffle dress. With so much on offer it was a hard decision indeed which cut to pick out!

Now for the print: Victory floral is one of those amazing prints that can be coordinated with a plethora of colors to mix or match with it! I love prints such as these in which you can completely transform your look by coordinating different colors with it. This print features a navy background with yellow and purple flowers. Within the flowers are white highlights and maroon shadows with green leaves scattered throughout-- so many colors to play around with!

I was able to pick this dress up from one of my favorite online shops, Cats Like Us who still has it in stock for a great price! While I'm a solid 10 in Trashy Diva due to the stretch knit material I was able to size down one size in this with no problems for a perfect fit. I think if I ordered my normal size this would have fit me a little loose in the waist.

Outfit of the Day: First Three Outfits Of The Year

I hope you all had a wonderful New Years celebration!

After my flurry of posts around Christmas time I've been a bit quiet on the blog. It was just too good to enjoy the peace and quiet at home, vegging out to Netflix, and even being super productive one day cleaning out the garage! Anyhow, now I have a bit of catch up to do!

My outfits are from a couple days after Christmas going out for Chilli's for lunch, New Years Eve spending a quiet and cold evening on a friend's sail boat on the San Francisco Bay to watch the fireworks, and from New Years Day going out for lunch at a new Italian place nearby that Tim and I haven't tried yet.

Outfit of the Day:
A Few Days After Christmas:

Going out for Chilli's for lunch a few days after Christmas I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Bonita dress in Catcus Rouge. I thought it would be fitting as it has cactus all over and has a strong southwestern feel to it. Not ready to shed the Christmas feel just yet I dressed it up with lots of red: a red overcoat from Target I got a couple years ago, a red cardigan I got from Nordstrom Rack also a couple years, and red velvet mary janes I got recently from ebay. To keep warm I also paired this with beige Vera Wang sweater tights I got from Kohl's a couple years ago. For a finishing touch, to continue with the southwester theme, I paired this with a pair of multi stone small hoop earrings which include turquoise, a stone often associated with the desert of the southwest.

New Years Eve:

For New Years Eve Tim and I got invited to a sunset sail on one of our friend's sail boats. It was a low key boat party with a few friends where we stopped at Jack London Square for dinner just before continuing to sail to San Francisco to watch the fireworks show on the water. I knew this was going to be a super cold event being outside on the water so I was sure to dress ultra warm!

For this event I picked out my Heart of Haute Monique dress in Peacock Royal. To keep extra warm I paired this with black fleece lined tights I got a couple weeks ago from Nordstrom Rack, black fleece lined velvet mary janes I got from Urban Outfitters a couple years ago, a black cardigan from the Gap from several years ago, a large wool Betsey Johnson overcoat I got a few years ago from Nordstrom Rack and a thick black wool beret by San Diego Hat Company which I got from Amazon last year. While on the boat I was sure to wear my gloves as well! For a finishing touch I wore a sparkly pair of blue crystal earrings I've had since high school.

New Years Day:

On New Years Day Tim took me out to lunch at a new Italian place in town which I've been wanting to try. Originally the plan was to go out for dinner and I had a much fancier dress planned for the occasion (my peacock Lilian by Trashy Diva). But when the day rolled around I wasn't much in a super fancy mood. Instead, I decided it was the perfect day to dress cozy and wear a pair of separates I've been wanting to pair together!

I got the idea to wear this dog sweater paired with a skirt when I saw Lauren of Prefer to be Demure, a blogger I just recently started following, wear one of her dog sweaters paired with a skirt in her post, Woof from some weeks ago. I got this sweater from my mom several years ago. My mom is so cute. I paired this with a black skirt by Steady, grey tights I got just a couple weeks ago from Nordstrom, burgundy and white Chelsea Crew heels, a wool cape I got from Modcloth last year, the Charming on the Quad Cape. For a finishing touch I wore this with a maroon beret I got from Forever 21 last year and a pair of sparkly silver earrings I got from a local retro style shop, Vintage Alley. I was surprised and happy to find that these earrings went so perfectly with grey.
