Outfit of the Day: 1987

The 80's has really had my heart lately

I don't know exactly what first brought on this feeling of nostalgia and wanting to go back to the decade of my childhood... I do know however that when I first saw Modcloth carrying rainbow striped dresses such as their long gone Some Flair Over the Rainbow dress (maybe a bit more on the 70's side) followed sometime somewhat soon after by the Too Much Fun Dress in Rainbow by Emily and Fin (also long gone), I sat up and took notice. I almost bought both dresses. But somehow, neither was quiet right with my heart's desire. In hindsight, I do wish I would have gotten both but you know what they say about hindsight...

Anyhow, now with a season's full of Stranger Things fresh on my brain, a new 80's arcade, High Scores, that just opened up in our home town, and a new Erstwilder collection out, Erstwilder Goes Galactic, a collection for which many of the pieces scream 80's nostalgia to me, I have truly been bit by the bug. I've really really been wanting some 80's style clothes!

So for now I dress in what I've got while being thankful there's a vintage consignment store in our town to browse through not to mention a super awesome nearby arcade to play in. ;)

Outfit of the Day (Friday):

For the opening day at the new High Scores in Hayward, I knew I wanted to wear something kind of 80's to show my support for this awesome place. I got this dress a few years ago from Forever 21. While it's technically completely modern it really has a late 80's feels to it to me. Maybe because of the loose fitting off the shoulders top, or maybe the drop waist cut... It has cats printed all over and I knew my brand spanking new Erstwilder Rebel, Rebel brooch would be the perfect accessory to pair with this outfit. I also paired it with black capri leggings, a black tank, and black flats. For an extra finishing touch I wore a pair of fushia hoop earrings I had from an Invader Zim earring set I got from Hot Topic several years ago.

    1. Thanks Lauren! And OMG the Erstwilder Goes Galactic is amazing. I checked out with 4 items from the collection (2 brooches, a necklace, and earrings) but still wish and hope I can go back for more!!! :D Also 1UP in Denver looks amazing!!! It's a lot bigger than the vintage arcades we have and I'm super impressed they have so many pinball machines and skee ball! <3 You are a lucky lady to be by such a fantastic place!

  3. This is incredibly cute on you! What a lovely different look, the 80s nostalgia is great. I just remember wearing embellished tights and taffeta skirts, perhaps I'll resurrect those for a blog post?! x

    1. Thank you Porcelina. I know this is quite the venture away from my usual look but sometimes you just have to go with how you feel, and really, isn't that the whole point of fashion anyway? Thank you very much. I really appreciate the encouraging comment. I would love to see you sporting a resurrected 80's look on your blog! I hope you do it! <3

  5. Like, this is so totally awesome! (Sorry, had to get my Valley Girl on for a moment there. :D)

But seriously, it is! I love that you're digging the 80s big time. As a child of that generation, I love them to bits and as a vintage adoring adult, I've been predicting for a while now that they're set to make a major comeback (and not just in an ironic hipster meets ugly Christmas sweater party kind of way, but with genuine appreciation and a desire to emulate more elements of that time).

Your outfit is so cute and fun! How fabulous is it that Erstwilder released a brooch in a nod to Ziggy Stardust? Love that! :)

    1. LOL!!!! Thank you Jessica! I've been on such a kick lately wanting more 80's in my life. I'm sure there will be more 80's inspired outfits to come! :D I have also been expecting 80's to make a come back in a big way. I wonder if we might have blinked and missed it though or if it's still coming. I remember about 11 years ago I was in Brisbane Australia and they were all about 80's inspired fashion, then when I came back to the states slowly but surely I started to notice more 80's creeping into the mainstream but now it just seems like a touch here and there. To be fair though, it seems like just in the last year I've noticed a huge trend for the 60's in main stream stores, followed the next year by 70's so perhaps it is still coming! I hope so! I'm looking out for it. And yes, isn't the Bowie cat the most awesome thing ever! Too freaking cute if I do say so myself. ;) <3 hehe
