Outfit of the Day: Two Trashy Divas and Collectif

Hello Kittens

Once again, I'm here playing catch up on my Outfit of the Days. I was almost all caught up too!

Outfit of the Day (Saturday, three weeks ago):

A couple of weekends ago, I wore this Trashy Diva Sweetie dress in Ruffled Feathers. Though I don't really celebrate, I picked this dress to wear because it was Lunar New Years and this is the year of the rooster :D. Tim and I went out to breakfast and then ran a couple errands for the day. I paired this with a Sweetie sweater by Heart of Haute which I was lucky and snagged during a sale on sale a few months ago. :) I also paired this with Miss L Fire Maraschino pumps which I also got on sale at Zulily back during the Summer. For a finishing touch I wore a pair of red stud earrings which I got a while ago from a local retro shop, Vintage Alley, and to keep warm, wore my trusty red toggle coat from Target from years ago.

Outfit of the Day (Saturday, two weeks ago):

The next weekend I went out with a friend wine tasting. I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Streetcar dress in Forget Me Not Floral. I paired this is my red Sweetie cardigan from Heart of Haute (again), brown sweater tights from Target from a few years ago, and a pair of red Miz Mooz t-strap wedges which I got a few years ago from Zappos. For a finishing touch I wore this with a red beret from ebay which I got a few months ago, red floral stud earrings, and an Erstwilder brooch which I got as a present from a friend a few months ago.

Outfit of the Day (Sunday, two weeks ago):

Tim and I went for a walk around the lake. I've been hiking a lot lately and have been trying to work on a style where I still feel like myself but which is a bit more casual than my usual weekend looks. Thank goodness for vintage reproduction companies like Collectif! While almost everything I am wearing here (at least the main pieces) are Collectif, I actually owe this outfit to CiCi at www.cici-marie.com/ She has reviewed both this plaid top and these pants on her blog in the past which has alerted me to their merits. :) I am a big fan of this blog and love the outfits she comes up with! You should check it out if it's not already on your radar. Anyhow, the top is Collectif's mainline cheyenne tai tartan gab jacket which I grabbed on sale a few weeks ago while the pants are Collectif's Rebel Kate Denim Jeans which I was super lucky and found on ebay for a great price several months ago. I wore this with a striped shirt which I got from Target about a year ago and a pair of red Vans. To finish off this look, I wore this with a red belt I took off of one of my Hell Bunny dresses.

And....Here are a few fun pictures of our walk around the lake. You can say we got a fair bit of rain this year!

Til we see each other again friends! <3

Outfit of the Day: More Spring Backlog of Outfits

I'm more or less now catching up with my backlog of Outfits of the Day posts

Saturday (last last week):

Still reeling from the loss of B.K. the week before last I decided to wear this super colorful outfit to help pep me up. I had a friend whose favorite saying was, "look good, feel good" and though I was still sad, it did make me feel better to go out in my Trashy Diva Turquoise Floral Louise blouse and Trashy Diva chambray circle skirt, even if it was just to Panera Bread to pick up bagels for breakfast. I paired this with a pair of nude flats with sparkly bows by Pazzo which I got from DSW years ago but somehow never managed to wear them until this day! For a finishing touch I also wore a pair of pink floral stud earrings which I got from Forever 21 a couple years ago.

Saturday:

Last Saturday was Tim's birthday. We went out to his favorite local sushi place, we walked around our downtown area a bit, and then I took him out to see the new X-Men movie followed by birthday ice cream! The weather was perfect! Warm/verging on hot and towards the evening perfectly warm/slightly cool enough to chose to or not to wear a cardigan. Since I've been wearing some of the dresses that I most love lately I decided to finally take this dress out for a spin--my Trashy Diva Sweetie dress in Pearl Harbor! I love this one so much I've been slightly hesitant to wear it for the first time. But what better occasion than the hubby's birthday to wear one of my most loved dresses? To not distract from the gorgeousness of this print, I paired this dress with a pair of nude flats by Easy Spirit which I got from Nordstrom Rack last year. For a finishing touch I donned on a faux fruit and straw fascinator which I made myself (see the tutorial here), a vintage straw purse I found last year on Etsy, and a simple pair of pale pink pearl studs which were gifted to me several years ago by my Mother-in-law for a Christmas present.

Sunday:

On Sunday we stayed home and had a good relaxing day. For dinner we decided to go pick up some sandwiches at Quiznos. Fresh out of the shower I decided to throw on this red Sweet Sway dress by Steady which I got years ago from Angry Young and Poor. I paired this with red flats by Ecco which I found last year on Ebay and because my hair was wet and I didn't want to bother with drying it or risk it dripping on my dress I wore a red snood in my hair.

Wednesday:

On Wednesday I had some doctors appointments and ended up taking the day off of work. Though it may seem kind of weird, I decided to wear my red Steady dress again one more time before washing it since I had only spend about 15-20 minutes in it a couple days before. Going against my initial reaction of throwing on a black cardigan with this dress, I decided to pair it with a red cardigan. I like the way it ended up together. For shoes I paired this with black ankle strap flats by Blowfish; I think I might have gotten them several years ago from Zappos.

Dress Review: A Heart Aflutter For A Fowl

A while ago my mom and I were shopping at HomeGoods, a discount homeware store...

She immediately spotted a ceramic chicken figure and said to me, "You should get the chicken because you're a chicken!"

I was a little dumbfounded by this. "What do you mean, I'm a chicken?!" I asked a little incredulously but mostly highly amused. She explained to me I'm a chicken because my Chinese zodiac sign is a chicken. She was talking about the rooster. Ever since that day I've had an affinity for chickens. Not only does the story make me smile every time I think on it but I also love the way the word sounds.. Chicken! And so, when I saw that Trashy Diva recently came out with a chicken print I knew I had to have it! Yay Chickens!

I won't lie. This print could have been any combination of colors or any style of illustration and I would have bought it. It is a huge bonus that this print just happens to be one of the prettiest prints by Trashy Diva I've ever seen! I love the rich vibrant colors. It's comprised of a gorgeous turquoise background with highly stylized multicolored roosters in red, green, and white! Now here is a reproduction novelty print done right! It looks amazingly authentic with a huge 1940's feel to it. I love how it is colorful and bright, yet not too juvenile nor glaringly blinding as far as bright colors go. As gorgeous from afar as it is up close, I swoon at the sight of it!

And so, because I'm so crazy for this print I had to order it in not just one but two dresses! I knew right away looking at Trashy Diva's selections that the 1940's and the Sweetie cuts were my favorite in this print.

The 1940's cut, in my mind, is one of Trashy Diva's most iconic and quintessential cuts! It is for sure one of my favorites and go tos in Trashy Diva. I love the classic yet simple and flattering shape of this dress as well as the amazing attention to detail in all the tiny little gathers at the shoulders and under the bust. The waist is banded and lined to allow for a fitted nipped in look. The dress has a low v-neck back zip with two hook and eyes to ensure underthings remain concealed. The skirt has a classic a-line shape to it which without having too much volume, remaining true to the 1940's silhouette, has amazing flow.

The second dress I chose in this print was the Sweetie dress. The Sweetie is a classic 1940's style shirt waist dress. I adore the red contrasting fully functioning buttons along the front as well as the contrasting buttons at the two front pockets. The detachable belt give it a very finished look. This dress features a slightly a-line (though much slimmer) skirt than the 1940's dress. It also has a wide collar, gathers below the shoulders in the front and back, and has ever so slightly puffed sleeves. For convince, this dress also has a side zip in addition to the front buttons for ease of getting it on and off. With this one, I played around a bit with ways to wear it. Below I changed out the belt to see how it would look with a contrasting red belt, and I also tried it with a cardigan and hat... a perfect outfit I think, for if I ever take that fantasy trip to Cuba now that people from the United States are allowed to travel there! :)

Outfit of the Day: Out to the Movies Again!

We must be on a roll now!

This past weekend Tim and I treated ourselves to another movie night date night. This time around we headed out to Alameda which is home to our favorite movie theater, The Alameda Theater and Cineplex, an old historic theater which dates back to 1932 and which was newly renovated and reopened in 2005 with all the modern sophistication of the big box theaters (plus a couple extra perks including movie posters which play live trailers), while still keeping the form, look, and details of the beautiful original.

We met up with a friend there, loaded up on popcorn, water (for me), and beer (for the guys), and enjoyed a night of The Avengers 2. I never say no to anything Joss Whedon makes! After the movie, Tim and I popped into the classic arcade museum across the street, High Scores Arcade, which is not only a museum but is also a fully functioning arcade. After that we finally made it out to dinner at the cute local 50's diner Ole's Waffle Shop. I was tempted to order the pecan waffles but instead feeling like I should be a little better and eat something more substantial I got the tuna melt... though in hindsight I don't know if you can really call it something better. ;) Though we didn't plan it this way, there was a definite theme going on that night. Alameda is so full of culture and historic touches. It's definitely one of our favorite towns in California. Hopefully next week we will be back if they are playing the new Poltergeist remake at the Alameda theater!

Outfit of the Day:

For this night's activities I was more concerned about staying warm than anything else. It is getting into late May but lately we've been having a bit of a cold spell. On top of that, it always gets colder here at night! I had to get out my warm winter coat to go out that night. I picked something out that would go with my red winter coat since I actually haven't gotten around to taking it in to the dry cleaners to retire it away for spring and summer yet. I opted to wear my Trashy Diva Sweetie Hearts dress which matched my coat well. I paired it with black sweater tights, black flats, and a red cardigan. I was warm for at least most of the night. ;)

Outfit of the Day: Date Night Movie Night

Yay for date nights!

When Tim and I were first dating we used to go to the movies all the time. I still have all the movie ticket stubs paying tribute to how much of movie junkies we were! It seems like every weekend we were out seeing a different movie. That was when I was just fresh out of college and movies for pleasure were a whole new world to me, not to mention free time in general! As time passed and we got bogged down with the redundancies of the 9-5 Monday-Friday work week we found that we haven't really taken as much advantage of the freedom of weekends as much as we used to. And never mind about movies! With the convenience of netflix we've come to the conclusion over time that most movies are just not very good, entertaining, nor all that interesting at all. I would say, 3 stars at best is usual... which in my book translates to, it's aight.

In any case, we actually did make it out to dinner and a movie last weekend and it was actually GOOD. For the first time in I don't know how long, I actually have no complaints about the movie at all... which I can tell you rare for me. If you haven't seen it already, do yourself a favor and watch Ex Machina. I'm not saying you really have to go to the movie theater to see... you can wait for the DVD, blue ray, digital download, but you should see it ;)

Outfit of the Day:
For date night last weekend I donned on my Trashy Diva Sweetie dress in Tropical Floral print. I just got this cute wooden bracelet that I knew would look so cute with the wooden buttons on my dress as well as the wooden buckle of the belt loop so I've been excited to wear this dress out! I paired this with a purple cardigan and my usual black flats. Also, surprise! I'm wearing my glasses on the weekend! It was a spur of the moment decision to go to the movies so just didn't really think to change out of my glasses into contacts but I do love the way it looked period with my dress anyway.
